FAQs

  • What is a giclee?Giclee (zhee-CLAY) is a French term meaning “fine spray of ink.” A giclee on canvas is the highest quality print available of an original artwork. The high-resolution reproduction begins with a digital transparency of the original work scanned into a computer. A fine stream of ink containing 4 million droplets per second is sprayed onto a single specially treated canvas producing hundreds of shades of vibrant colors that are blended to produce the reproduction. The giclee print is as rich in color as the original work and on canvas feels like the original painting. The print is coated with an ultraviolet, waterproof varnish and will last for 200 years. Each giclee on canvas is produced separately and is inspected and approved by Len Mondschein. The artist then hand-signs and numbers each canvas as to its place in the edition.

  • What is an edition? An edition is a set of identical prints, each one of which is signed and numbered by the artist. Two numbers are found in a lower corner. The first number indicates the print’s place in the order of all the prints in the edition. The second number indicates the total number of prints in the edition of reproductions.

  • What does s/n mean?s/n is an abbreviation for signed and numbered. Len Mondschein inspects and approves each of his canvases, signs and numbers it.

  • What is a Certificate of Authenticity? Each giclee signed and numbered comes with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to and ensuring its exclusivity in the edition.
